tired
just got back from walking around the neighborhood. tired but well worth it :)
tiring day yesterday. went to yb gardens to check out the sf theater fest. i saw about 6 short (30 min @) performances. it was kinda inspiring. i woulda been more inspired had it not been so hot. not exactly sac hot, but warm enough. some highlights: saw aatc play about 2 women living in NYC. was ok. performances were well done, but need to see the whole play. can't wait. then went to see this other group perform a short one-act which was an allegory on ww1 about neighbors living in a cul-de-sac. wtf is a cul de sac. i know that it's part of a neighborhood, but it just sounds so frou frou to say that. i live in a cul de sac. actually that sounds kinda nasty. "yeah, i live on the base of the cul de sac" ew. "why does the cul de sac smell like funk?" ew. but i digress... anyways, that play didn't make any sense to me. one of the actors was so baks. it was hard to concentrate on him. overall, the actiing wasn't very good. hey, takes one to know one. after them was a couple of scenes from the african american shakespeare company. there were four of them, but they were really good! they did a couple of scenes from remixed shakespeare plays and used current topics like the bombing in lebanon and isreal. after seeing them, then waited to check out a group called no nude men dancing... and they did a 30 minute version of les miz, but with all speaking instead of singing, which was cool since i knew all the lyrics anyways. after that, i checked out this band called crooked family who were performing a rock opera called thanatics. was okay. they had a lot of tech problems. the guitarist's amp was way too loud, which is cool if you were the one playing guitar, but sucks if you're in the audience trying to understand what's going on with the story. after a number, he eventually turned the amp down. the story was about how a bunch of artists in san francisco start a popular art movement where they start killing themselves. pretty crazy... might check them out at the fringe fest. after that, then i went to check out a sketch comedy troupe called "richter scale". my favorite sketch was with these 2 girls who work as tour guides to sf before it sinks into the ocean. anyways, they compared the real estate mogul of trump in ny and nj to the ACADEMY OF ART UNIVERSITY in sf. OMG. i died. they said how the school is taking over every neighborhood... which is starting to look true.
after all this, i finally got hungry and ate some lunch at metreon. and being the most insane person i know... i walked over to the curren and bought me a ticket to chorus line. it was a mezzanine, but i wanted to check it out. but the ticket guy said to come back right before the show to see if i could upgrade the tic for sumn better, which i did. and bada-bing! score. traded my tic for row h seat 103... orchestra center! i literally got goose bumps when it started. fantastic cast! great ensemble. they were really... together! plus, it has the star of curly sue as one of them. :) pretty cool. hope that it plays for a long time on broadway. can't wait for the new recording to come out as well.
jeez, louise, all this in one day! sayonara. *bow*
